What is the CPSIA?
It stands for "Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008". It has been referred to as the "lead law" but it goes much further than that. It also includes testing for phthalates, flammability, and small parts.
Read the act here: http://cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/legislation.html
By Feb 10, 2009, all products for children under 12 must have reasonable testing completed to ensure lead is less than 500 ppm. All products must be certified and retailers must keep the certificate (General Certificate of Compliance, or GCC) on file. It will be illegal to sell any product intended for a child under 12 that is not certified.
By Aug 10, 2009, testing from an accredited third party lab much be completed for each size and color of each product to ensure lead is less than 100 ppm. Products must be re-certified and certification is redone for each batch manufactured.
What does this mean for Knickernappies?
All of our products (except for the Stay-Put strap which is being discontinued) have completed the reasonable testing required for the Feb 10 deadline.
